Cherry Pecan Cinnamon Rolls

There is no better way to wake up in the morning and receive or, GIVE, ‘Breakfast in Bed’ than with warm and sweet Cherry Pecan Cinnamon Rolls.

This recipe has been in my family for decades because my cinnamon rolls are so soft and fluffy, but most importantly, I love the baked dried cherries integrated into it. I’ve also recently been adding a filling glaze of Bonne Maman’s Cherry Preserves, and it’s such a sweet and substantial touch. Cherries are like a sweet kiss; So, think of this recipe as a BUNCH of sweet kisses on a plate!

Just for your understanding, this isn’t one of those recipes where if you are making a smaller amount, it will cut down the time. Using my bread maker helps to take out a lot of personal energy used and helps to make it perfect every time. It makes dessert-plate-sized rolls and enough to freeze and save for later; a la carte!

Perfecting Your Cherry Pecan Cinnamon Roll Ingredients

For this decadent Cherry Pecan Cinnamon Rolls recipe, here’s how to make the best of your ingredients…

Eggs:  I think it best to always go for range-free and certified organic eggs. Purchasing your eggs this way is the best and freshest form and will ensure quality. It is comparable to if you had chickens on a farm and raise them. Total quality!

Ghee: Basically, Ghee is clarified butter. It’s used a lot in Indian cooking. The butter gets boiled, and it removes the milk proteins and solids. It’s rich in the good fats we need and helps reduce heart health issues. It also keeps your gut healthy! 

Vanilla Pudding Mix:   This is the key ingredient! The “Jell-o brand” I use does it so well that I don’t need to make my vanilla pudding from scratch.

Milk:  Almond milk goes SO well with this recipe because of the pecan already incorporated in it. It’s a perfect match!

Bonne Maman Cherry Preserves: A newfound favorite! I only use half of the jar. You don’t want to put TOO much because it will spill over everywhere once you start rolling the dough. 

Instant, Active, Dry Yeast: I’ve always used “Bella Rise” because it works so well with other recipes I’ve used with my bread maker, and they come out parfait.

You can try other variations with this Cherry Pecan Cinnamon Rolls Recipe that will work and still make an excellent dish…

Nut Allergy: Remove pecans and use Rice Milk instead.

Don’t like cherries nor pecans ( I must say, you’re missing out) you can still make this recipe and it will just be regular cinnamon rolls!

Warm cream cheese frosting glazed over a soft and fluffy sweet cinnamon roll dough of baked cherry and pecans and layered with Bonne Maman cherry preserves.

  1. In a small, large bowl, combine the water, yeast, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.

  2. In a large bowl, add the pudding mix, 2 cups of almond milk, ghee, eggs, and salt, yeast mixture, and blend well.

  3. Gradually add flour to the mixture and place in the bread maker, and select the dough program for the kneading process. ( You may also knead by hand until the dough is smooth and then place in a greased bowl, covering it with saran wrap to allow the dough to rise in a room temperature area). Once the dough program has finished, leave the dough to rise until the dough has doubled in size.

  4. Roll dough out on a floured cutting board. Using ingredients for filling: Mix ghee, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl and spread all over the dough. Then come back with the Bonne Maman cherry preserves and spread a layer of it all over the dough to about 1 inch away from the edges.

  5. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll the dough up as tightly as feasible and slice the roll to be approximately 2" thick. Place on a lightly greased baking pan and bake for 15-20 minutes. Mix ingredients for frosting in a bowl.  Remove when rolls have turned golden brown.  While warm add a layer of frosting on each roll. Let it cool. Then add another layer of frosting. Serve warm and ENJOY!

This looks like a great recipe.  It was clearly laid out from ingredients to steps for preparation.  We enjoy “continental breakfast” on the weekend when we can sit around a talk over a cup of coffee.  These cherry pecan cinnamon rolls will be great.  Can I use whole milk rather than almond milk.  Believe it or not, I sometimes add a bit of vanilla coffee creamer to milk for added sweetness.  That probably won’t work for these.  Thanks so much for the recipe.  I am looking forward to more to come.

  3. wow, this seems like a great recipe, I’m not the best at cooking but I’m sure with this recipe I can surprise a special someone. if I were to make the cinnamon roll could I use a pre-made roll or do you suggest I make the rolls from scratch? also, do  I have to use cherries or can I use any fruit of my choice?

    1. Hi Ray! If you’re pressed for time, sure, buy it store-bought, but on the weekends, in particular, I say make it from scratch it is SO MUCH BETTER! And Yep, you can use raisins, cranberries, or any other dried fruit…in the baking process, it brings out the flavor, and it takes so good! Thanks for the feedback! Cheers!

  5. These cherry pecan cinnamon rolls look very yummy and the instructions are very clear. Are dried cherries the same as glacéd cherries? They are not my favourite, so can I replace it with fresh cherries?

    How long will it take for the dough to double in size? Is the rising time included in the 2 hours of preparation time, ot should I allow more time as a total?

    I live in Italy and have never see ghee being sold here. Can I replace it with olive oil?

    1. Hi LineCowley, Thank you for your feedback! I actually used dried cherries in the recipe and Bonne Maman Cherry Preserves. The glacéd cherries or Maraschino cherries were just used to make a pretty picture. You can still use fresh cherries and maybe chop them in four quarters-YUM!

      Yep, the 2 hour preparation time includes the rising of the dough… the Cuisinart bread maker I use is so easy to time it to a fault. 

      Since you don’t have ghee… yes olive oil can work but I wouldn’t use as much ghee as olive oil. Maybe half the portion of every portion of ghee mentioned.

Can I freeze leftover rolls to keep them fresh?

    1. Hi Cynthia! Thank you so much for your feedback! I’ve left them out in a cake tray all day until evening, and they were fine. My kids like to re-warm them before eating them again vs. just eating the rolls at room temperature.. but yep, the dough will make it! I definitely advise freezing the leftovers! Cheers!
